.

What qualifications are required to appear as a storyteller in the listing of the RIC?

Only professional storytellers who have requested a listing and whose applications have been approved can appear in the RIC list. The criteria that determine if someone is or is not a professional storyteller have to do with several indicators, among which are: the years as a storyteller, training (theatrical, literary, educational, vocal technique ...), the adequacy of the repertoire, the frequency of performances, the presence at festivals, publishing books or articles related to storytelling or creative writing, theoretical research about various aspects of oral history or folklore, positive references from other professionals (storytellers, librarians, cultural promoters, teachers), the existence of Internet records of their activities as storytellers, maintaining a website or blog of specialized outreach activities of the Oral and the promotion of reading, the quality of their performances, the time devoted to such activities, etc. To appear in the list of storytellers of the RIC it is not necessary to meet all these requirements, but enough to be meaningful. In 95% of cases the decision is quite clear, in one way or another. The remaining cases could be called "borderline"; the geographical and cultural criteria are important.

Each week you receive in the mail from the RIC new applications. Most are rejected because they do not meet the requirements stated above. There may be an error at the time to register or deny registration of a storyteller, nobody is perfect. The boundaries of who can be and can not be listed as a storyteller in the doorway of the RIC, in 5% of cases "doubtful" are not built with ditches and electric fences crocodiles. The objective of RIC is to work for the storytelling and enhance their work, not lecturing or issue certificates of competency.

Are there any storytellers in the RIC who did not request to be listed?

No, there aren't. All storytellers' data appearing on the website of the RIC were provided personally by the storytellers themselves. No one can be listed in our database without having applied personally, and without providing the data shown in the web tab. The Spanish Agency for Data Protection controls and monitors the file of the RIC, and obliges the RIC to comply with the Organic Law on Data Protection.

Is it necessary to pay a fee to be a member of the RIC?

No, you do not pay any fee to be a member and appear on the list of RIC storytellers. Coordinators do not charge anything for the work they do in the RIC. Those webmasters responsibles of the RIC website www.cuentacuentos.eu are not paid . The RIC receives no grants or sponsorship.

Who runs the RIC?

The RIC is ran by its own members with total autonomy, because each of them decides by themselves to apply for membership with complete freedom, which data provides to their personnal page to be listed on the RIC, who they want to get in touch without intermediaries, or which messages spread on the spaces the RIC provides in the social networks. The censure or expulsion will only be applied in cases where a member or user insults, abuse, or defame other members or the RIC itself.
The RIC is coordinated by fourteen internationally renowned specialists.
The website of the RIC, www.cuentacuentos.eu, is a private web, and is registered, paid and mantained by Enrique Páez and Beatriz Montero. Same way the other coordinators, their work is unpaid, and is exercised voluntarily.

What is the role of the coordinators of the RIC?

From all over the world the RIC receives news, information, proposals, suggestions and reports on activities of storytellers. Much of this information flow is produced, released, channeled, or driven by the 14 coordinators of the RIC. Being a Coordinator of the RIC is not an official position, or an accredited degree, but a recognition of personal effort that each of them performs for the RIC and storytelling. The current coordinators, selected for their long history and international professional recognition, accepted the invitation from Enrique Páez and Beatriz Montero from the beginning to create the current project of the RIC, and perform such work on a voluntary coordination and unpaid basis. They all agreed, are fulfilling their commitment, and we can only thank them for their work.
